Gluten-Free Menu Options In Philly
For many of us, the ultimate comfort food is a heaping bowl of starchy pasta. But while it may be enjoyable going down, many have serious issues with the side effects that ziti can leave behind. Whether you are waylaying wheat in an effort to cut back carbs or you are one of the many now learning those stomach pains were Celiac disease all along, going gluten-free is big. And thanks to lots of area restaurants, it doesn't have to be difficult, as more and more are offering gluten-free options or even customizing their entire menu to appeal to these growing masses. Check out a few of our current favorites.
Serafina
For nearly a year now we have been pacing by the corner of 18th and Sansom waiting for the bright yellow signs of New York's popular Italian spot to welcome us inside their Philly location. As of last weekend, they are officially in business, and the gluten-free pasta option is perfect for those looking to feel indulgent but keep those tummies in check. We're partial to the fresh option that comes topped with zucchini, basil, butter and aged parmesan.

This upscale chain wowed us with its original menu dedicated to healthy options all less than 500 calories. But did you know you can mind your fat and your gluten with the special alternative menu? Look for flavor-packed salads, summer-inspired seafood and even a decadent loaded buffalo burger that is so fun you'll forget its served without a bun.

Pizza is the ultimate in quick and tasty, but what to do when you are short on time but can't handle the doughy base of classic pie? This newer Main Line spot is winning us over with its gluten-free crusts, full of all the chew you want. Top with organic, creative toppings like those found on the Pistachio Pesto, add on some nitrate-free pepperoni and you have a pie that sounds down right healthy (pictured above). Best of all, these are bake-at-home beauties, so it's all on your schedule.

Iron Hill Brewery
We are always surprised at the amazing variety at this local mini-chain, and we are thrilled to say that holds true even if you are going gluten-free. There's a solid two pages of the menu dedicated to gluten-free options, from massive entree salads to gourmet-style treats like pan-seared scallops in a chardonnay cream sauce. And yes, don't worry, they pour a gluten-free beer, too.

Fare
The sustainable food trend is taking over Philly like weeds in a garden, and we love it. This Fairmount newcomer takes things to an even healthier level, offering organic produce and meats, vegan options and, of course, a gluten-free menu. Yes, that's right, pretty much everything on the menu is or can be prepared to be gluten-free. You may finally be able to trick your buds into eating better after all.
